The colour red symbolises a loud and ambitious cry for attention, yet the tape is temporary, removable, and small. I use the conflicting characteristics of the red tape to represent a core motive of my art practice – exploring the delicate contradiction of hoping to be found and understood by others, yet doubting the existence of a complete understanding between individual minds.
My art practice delves into different psychological areas such as trauma and healing, collective loneliness, and loss and grief. I transform ideas into a storytelling style and express them through various media, including a series of illustrations, poetry, paintings, public installations, and performances.
I see my art practice as my therapy, and the works are the audience’s story time. I tell stories through my art; I work with fragments of my life. My works are personal, intimate, and soft with a tone of cruelness.
I believe the making of art is always personal. It is the most well-rounded way to convey a specific point of view and to sow an instant, yet deep, connection with another human, if executed accurately. There is something uniquely poetic about connecting through art: the act of creating in one’s own language, then being seen, felt, and understood on a transcendent, almost numinous, level. This is the magic of art that nothing else can replicate.
In one of my more distinctive collections of works – the red tape series - I create works that combine small, delicate drawings of everyday objects with colourful, abstract visual effects of contrasting textures made with various pigments, along with handwritten words that add structure to the story I am telling through the work. Each small paper represents a particular scene that carries a portion of the idea's importance. With all of them being made, arranged, and composed into one work, the story is completed and told.
I consider creating art as a form of unconditional love I give to life.
